Porcelain and fishing line
Variable sizes, 220 individual pieces were hung 4m tall x 3 wide

About this work

This piece is inspired from a trip to Australia and sketchbook images of the Banksia tree’s seed pods.

Development of the drawings to refine the shapes and simplify the individual sections of the pod led to maquettes and a proposal for the Sculpture in Context exhibition at National Botanic Gardens in Dublin. The individual porcelain pieces were hand built and the piece was hung in one of the temperate hot houses. Later it was reinstalled in a curved alcove at the SSA winter exhibition 2014-15 at the National Gallery in Edinburgh.
