Nurdle Extractometer

Nurdle Extractometer

This sculpture could be viewed as a maquette or model of a potential machine that I imagine being able to clean the seas of nurdles. The nurdle is a humble lentil sized piece of plastic, broken down from larger pieces of waste plastic that ends up in the oceans, they are found in massive numbers on the beach and in marine animal stomachs and cause a huge amount of damage.
The piece is, ironically made of many different materials, some found on the beach. I find beachcombing relaxing and meditative, as well as being aware of the damage these plastics are doing to the ecosystem. The sculpture alludes to function, in a playful way.
