I have just set up my art installation as part of Art Walk Porty 2017, a local arts event here in Portobello, Edinburgh.
The theme of the installation pieces is ‘Edgelands’, and I have responded to the brief by drawing attention to the seawater here at Seafield Beach, which is an often overlooked and neglected part of the city coastline. SEPA state that the water quality here can be ‘poor’, and for a designated bathing beach, i just don’t think that’s good enough. I have made 23 individual covers for the rocks using a geotextile material normally used to highlight contaminated ground in landscaping. I am giving 2 art walk talks and we will be doing mini beach cleans at each, with help of information and a Beach Clean Box provided by Surfers Against Sewage.
